Purpose

This page is a concept demonstration of a final project for a course, Visual Interface Design, I took in Spring 1999 at CMU. This page contains the problem statement only, the detailed information can be found below.

Problem

People spend more and more time surfing on the web. However, it's easy to get lost. We sometimes hear people saying,"I'm sure I've been a site talking about such and such but I can't find it anymore,"and we often find people have 3 or 4 column bookmarks and they either can't easily find what they want or can't remember what they bookmark it for.

I propose an interface which not only helps to keep the context of people's surfing on the web, but helps people go back to the context easily.

Moreover, instead of having an interface that helps users to navigate the system, I'd like to put more responsibility on interface designers, to use visualization techniques to minimize the need of navigation.

Proposal / Presentation / Report

Proposal:"Context Surfing on the Web - History/Bookmark Management" (converted from MS Word format).

Report:"HisTree - back to the context" (converted from Microsoft Word format).
